The Importance of Day 41

Noah and his family were in the arc while it rained for 40 days and 40 nights and all the world they knew passed away. “For in seven days I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and every living thing that I have made I will blot out from the face of the ground.” (Genesis 7:4)

Moses committed murder then exiled himself to the desert for 40 years. ““After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai.” (Acts 7:30)

Moses went up on the mountain for 40 days. “So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread nor drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.” (Exodus 34:28)

The Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. (Numbers 32:13 )The Lord’s anger burned against Israel and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil in his sight was gone.

Israel was taunted by Goliath for 40 days. (1 Samuel 17:16 ) “For forty days the Philistine came forward every morning and evening and took his stand.”

Jonah preached a message of repentance to Ninevah for 40 days. (Jonah 3:4)  Jonah began by going a day’s journey into the city, proclaiming, “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown.”

Jesus fasted and was tempted for 40 days. (Matt 4:1-2) “Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.  After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.”

Jesus after His resurrection appeared to His disciples for 40 days.  (Acts 1:3) “He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.”
